chorus accompaniment - Majesty! - William Gordon
It is usual to begin our services at Hamilton Temple singing praise and adoration to the Lord. And so, it is fitting for us to commence this recording the same way as we raise our voices to Him and sing: Majesty! Worship His Majesty!

song arrangement - The Beautiful City - Erik Silfverberg
This lovely setting is one of the first of many published from the pen of Erik Silfverberg. It has been played by many Salvationist bandsmen, especially since its inclusion in the green Triumph Series Favorites Journal.

hymn tune - Slane - Salvation Army Tune Book #789
The words we associate with this tune found in the Salvation Army's song book (#611), provide inspiration and eternal optimism while reflecting on the very nature of our loving God:

Lord of all hopefulness, Lord of all joy,
Whose trust, ever childlike, no cares could destroy,
Be there at our waking, and give us, we pray,
Your bliss in our hearts Lord, at the break of the day.

chorus accompaniment - As the Deer - William Broughton
The "Hallelujah Choruses" is a popular publication by the U.S.A. Central Territory, which has provided a much needed means to bridge newer worship choruses with the existing musical sections found in many Salvation Army corps. At Hamilton Temple, we enjoy a truly blended worship experience, and this accompaniment is one we use quite often:

As the deer pants for the water, so my soul longeth after you.
You alone are my heart's desire, and I long to worship you.
You alone are my strength my shield, to you alone may my spirit yield.
You alone are my heart's desire, and I long to worship you.

meditation - Serenity - Eric Ball
Eric Ball is regarded as one of the most prolific composers in the brass band world. Here we present one of his lesser known compositions from the Salvation Army's Triumph Series, which displays his tremendous ability to make stirring music while maintaining a technical level that would be accessible by the vast majority of brass bands. The beautiful words which are set to this melody, are found in the Salvation Army's songbook (#771):

When peace like a river attendeth my way,
When sorrows like sea billows roll,
Whatever my lot, thou hast taught me to know,
It is well, it is well with my soul.

hymn tune - Repton - Salvation Army Tune Book #123
Dear Lord and father of mankind………

hymn tune - There is a Message - Salvation Army Tune Book #829
The Salvation Army's current international leader, General John Gowans, has penned these words to express the Salvation Army's message to a lost world:

There is a message, a simple message,
And it's a message for us all;
There is a Saviour, and what a Saviour!
There is a Saviour for us all.

Let's look at Jesus, for he's the Saviour,
And he will answer when we call;
Let's look at Jesus, for he's the Saviour,
Yes, he's the Saviour for us all.

hymn tune arrangement - How Great Thou Art - James Curnow
One of the most loved hymns of the church comes alive in this majestic setting.

march - One By One - J. Pattison
If you bring the one next to you,
And I bring the one next to;
In all sorts of weather, we'll all pull together,
And see what we can do.
If you bring the one next to you,
And I bring the one next to me;
In no time at all we'll win them all,
Yes, win them, win them, one by one.

This classic march is numbered #935 in the Salvation Army's General Series, and would often be played on the streets of Hamilton during a Saturday evening "Open-Air Meeting", or on the march back to the Sunday Evening Service. It typifies the Salvation Army's passion and enthusiasm in its mission to win souls for the Kingdom.

hymn tune - Christ Is All - Salvation Army Tune Book #463
A song which has been used by many as their testimony:

I bring to Thee my heart to fill;
I feel how weak I am, but still
To Thee for help I call.
In joy or grief to live or die,
For earth of Heaven, this is my cry,
Be thou my all in all.

Christ is all, yes all in all,
My Christ is all in all.

hymn tune - The Old Rugged Cross - Salvation Army Tune Book #585
A proven favorite of many believers:

So I'll cherish the old rugged cross;
where my trophy at last I'll lay down.
I will cling to the old rugged cross;
and exchange it someday for a crown.

selection - Songs in Exile - Eric Ball
In June 1958, this masterpiece published as #1460 in the Salvation Army's General Series, and it has been a constant favorite for player and listener alike. In his usual way, the message is clearly relayed, with the reminder that as Christians, this world is not our home - we are certainly exiled on this earth. The introduction in the score notes is as follows: "Press on just one more day' sings the exile, but in a minor key for he is a long way from home. Then suddenly he remembers his heritage, 'I'm the child of a King,' and sings with joy. Now evermore confident, he resumes his journey ('Trust on! Have faith in God') and later falls to dreaming of the moment when he will see his Lord face to face…"

Someday I'll see his blessed face,
Someday I'll see his blessed face,
I'll hear the music of His voice,
Some glad, sweet day.

hymn tune arrangement - Arizona - Fred Dockerill
This lovely setting is elegant in its simplicity. The words form a prayer which is equally meaningful:

Spirit of God, that moved of old
Upon the water's darkened face,
Come, when our faithless hearts are cold,
And stir them with an inward grace.

euphonium solo - Dearest Name - David Catherwood
The sweet sound of the euphonium is a beautiful setting for the lovely Scottish melody, 'Annie Laurie'. Deputy Bandmaster Paul Alvarez ably provides this sensitive rendition to Nathan Aldersley's timeless words:

The Christ of Calvary,
The dearest name to me.
Is the matchless name of Jesus,
The Christ of Calvary.

hymn tune - University - Salvation Army Tune Book #141
Words often associated with this unique melody ('The God of Love my Shepherd is'), is a paraphrase of the 23rd Psalm by George Herbert.

song arrangement - I Can Think of Him - Leslie Condon
Joy Webb has authored many songs for various Salvation Army publications over the past 4 decades. The listener is able to relate to her words in a way that will bring their walk closer to the Lord:

I can think of Him in my happy hours,
When my heart is gay, glad my way;
Knowing He walks with me,
I can always think of Him.
I can think of Him in prayer,
For I know He will be there;
In my brightest day, or my darkest way,
I can think of Him in prayer.

hymn tune - St. Catherine - Salvation Army Tune Book #499
These words by General Arnold Brown echo our prayer for revival - revival in our lives, in our church, in our city - in our Army:

O Sound of mighty, rushing wind,
Wake us, we pray, to larger life;
O Tongue of flame, come, purify
From all that genders inward strife,
The pulse of passion stir again,
Thy power within our lives remain.

selection - Divine Communion - Arthur Gullidge
In choosing the repertoire for this recording, we accepted submissions from within our corps family, which is very supportive of the band and its ministry. As submissions were received, it became evident very quickly that this was the most popular inclusion on the recording by far.

It wasn't until after Arthur Gullidge and his band were lost at sea during the second World War that this score was found and published, to give us what would prove to be his most loved selection.

This work incorporates the following songs: 'All there is of me, Lord', 'Sweet will of God', and 'Holy Spirit Faithful Guide'. This is fitting for us at Hamilton Temple as we petition the Lord to take all there is of us in accordance with His perfect will, and look to the leading of the Holy Spirit for guidance.
